As the name suggests, the boat motors are the motors that are used in the boat to propel it through water. There are different types of boat motors that are used to run different types of boats. We often see these motors when we go for boating or for fishing. Though there are paddleboats also available, when it comes to speed and covering large distances, boat motor is the answer. These motors enable a person to cover large distances in a very short span of time. The paddleboats can be used in waters where there is no movement involved like any lake. The boat motor is specially designed so that it can easily be pivoted over the mounting. This helps the boat motor to steer the boat through water. It is not that the boat motor cannot move the boat when the propeller is not in power. In such circumstances, the boat can of course move. This is because the boat motor has a transmission leg, which remains in water and when the propeller is not in power, it acts as a rudder. It is also to be noted here that the unit can also be retracted when the boat is being moved in shallow waters, so as to prevent the boat motor to get entangled with different types of sea plants like see weeds and other such obstructions.

There are different types of boat motors that are available in the market. These boat motors are of different powers and are used as per the requirement of the power in the boat. This is the reason why we find two stroke, three stroke and four stroke boat motors in the market. It should be clearly understood to a reader here that the higher the number of strokes in the boat motor, the lighter in weight the boat motor is. Also, the higher the number of strokes in the boat motors, the more fuel-efficient it is. This is the reason why we find low-end light boats fitted with four stroke engines. Such boats can carry only a limited number of people and thus, cannon are used for purposes that require higher boat speed. The two stroke boat motors, though are not fuel-efficient as the four stroke boat motors are, but are packed with much power and thus, a person can easily enjoy ride with higher speeds. It can also carry more number of people with ease. It is said that best performance is provided by two stroke boat motors only.

Apart from the various types of boat motors discussed above, there are some other forms of boat motors also that are used for a specific purposes. We often see many small fishing boats and dinghies. These boats have small outboard units, which can be detached easily. As far as the big vessels are concerned, which are used for specific activities like trolling, these have big outboard units. These are not easily detachable like that of dinghies and are also not fuel run. Such boat motors are run by electricity.

One important aspect regarding boat motors that a person must understand that unlike other types of motors used in different types of automobiles, the boat motors does not require any cooling fans or the radiators for getting the engine cooled when it becomes heated. This is because for cooling the engine, the boat motors are fitted with different types of inlet for the supply of cold water and while moving and sailing, getting cold water is not a problem at all. It is also to be understood here that when this waters gets heater in the process of cooling the engine, this water can easily be replaced with cold water by letting it out. So, cooling the boat motor is exactly no problem.

One of the major brands of outboard motors is the Evinrude Outboard motor. It is owned by the Bombardier Recreational Products. These boat motors are available as two stroke motors or the four stroke motors. The technology used by this boat motors is fuel injection. This brand was the first in the United States to win the American Environmental Protection Agency 2005 Clean Air Excellence award. It is also acceptable by the European Union.

When a person buys a motorboat, in most of the countries, he is required to pay tax. This is because the taxes have to be paid on gasoline or diesel internal combustions motors and boat motor is one of them. However, the tax is not applied to electric motors like used in trolling. The tax rates for the motorboat varies from one country to another and even from one state to another, like United States.

When it comes to move or steer the boat through water, the first requirement is the boat motor. The boat motors are available in different sizes and with different powers. These different types of boat motors are used for different types of activities. The boat motors can use fuel or electricity for running the engine. Larger boats use electric power to run the boat motors. The fuel bases boat motors are available in different strokes and the fuel efficiency increases as the number of stokes increases. However, the power of boat motor reduces with increase in number of stokes in the boat motor. So, if a person wants more power, he should go for a two-stroke boat motor. For persons, who need fuel efficiency, four-stroke boat motor is the right option. Boat motors are motors that do not require any motor for getting cooled off and water is used for cooling the engine.
